This pattern got unexpectedly very successful on Ravelry – at the moment it has over 140 projects and almost 2000 likes
Yay!!!
I actually didn’t design much – selected a stitch pattern from a stitch book and added a border. Anyways, I’m glad people like it. It’s a good pattern for a beginner who wants to practice lace – it has both left and right slanting decreases on right and wrong side – great practice. But it’s not very complex, and with yarn held double on large needles goes pretty quickly.
PDF here. Thanks to Marjorie from Filophiles website, there is now French version of the pattern available here.
You can easily adjust the width and length of the project. One pattern repeat is 15 stitches (that’s one leaf width-wise and two leaves long-wise, the first one leaning to the right, and the second one leaning to the left).
Not knowing your gauge or the size of your couch, it’s hard to estimate the number of the repeats that you’ll need. Try making a swatch with 2 repeats of the pattern to see what size you’ll get and to decide how many repeats you’d need to cast on for. To calculate the total number of stitches to cast on, multiply 15 by the number of the repeats you want to make and add 10 stitches (you need 2 for the lace pattern to line up, and 4 for each side border of seed stitch).

It’s a beautiful pattern. I think I might like to make a really big one and use it on my bed in the winter!

This is really nice! I’ve got a couple of skeins of laceweight yarn to use up. Do you think with small enough needles the pattern would come through? It could be a small blanket (say, just for the car seat or something) but I don’t want to knit something that just looks “holey”.

Hi Christina,
I think it should work fine – it will depend on your yarn and needles selection.
I suggest you make a swatch – to see if you like the pattern, and to estimate, how many repeats you need to make. Don’t forget to block the swatch before measuring, and make sure to make it at least 15×15 cm (6x6in). I think if you keep the same number of repeats with laceweight on small needles, it’ll b e way too small.

Hi, I really liked this pattern, its beautiful and though i messed up along the way and had to unravel and pick up stitches (which was incredibly frustrating and stressful as I started the blanket for a friend that is due tomorrow and I originally thought she was due in December!) but in the end I’m very pleased with it and grateful that you offered this awesome pattern for free.

Thanks a lot for your kind words. If you are a beginner lace knitter, you may want to use life lines to help with unraveling in case of mistakes.

What does “yarn held double” mean? Do you have two balls of yarn going at the same time?
silkandwool
January 4, 2013
yes, this means that I used two strands at the same time – from two balls or both ends of the same balls.

Bonjour, Marjorie! Je parle francais un peut aussi
Thanks for translating it! Yes, of course you can share your French version, as long as you state clearly that I’m the original author.
It would also be great if you posted a link in this thread. On Ravelry, I could add your translation to my pattern page, so that it’s all in one place, linking to you as the author of translation. You can PM me on Rav, my username there is leilalieva.

Thanks a lot, Marjorie! Your pdf looks great!
Your link didn’t work, here’s the correct one:
How do you prefer to do it in Ravelry? Should I provide a link to your website, add the pdf as a Ravelry download to mine, or you make a separate pattern with a link to mine?

Hi Leyla,
There is the good link http://filophiles.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/traduction-leafy-baby-blanket3.pdf.
You can add the pdf as a raverly download to yours, it is perfect for me.
Thanks

I just looked at the pattern and I’m sure I’m just not thinking straight without the needles in my hand! But, the seed stitch for every row, I’m guessing it’s k1, p1, k1, p1 on the even rows and p1, k1, p1, k1 on the odd rows? That’s what I’m guessing.
If I read the written directions, I think I get it. When I look at the chart, I get confused. The chart look like you purl, purl, then knit across, purl, purl, etc. The written says p1, k1, p1, k1 all the way across.
I’m sure it would make sense if I just started it with needles in hand! I mean, look at all the beautiful blankets and no one else has asked that question!
Thanks!

Hi Shireen. Thanks for your question!
The chart depicts only the lace pattern, not the seed stitch border. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask again if you need more help.
Kind regards,

March 29, 2013
Leyla,
If I use size 8 needles while knitting this pattern with two strands of lace yarn will it still show the pattern the way it does in your blanket? I purchased to skeins of hand dyed yarn so I am trying to make it go a long way for a baby blanket and I would like to follow your pattern as closely as possible. I am on a trip and left my needles at home so I’m hoping I can get the right size needle so that I don’t have to buy several
Thanks!

Hi Nadja! I would definitely swatch – make a smaller sample to see how yarn behaves and what sed 8′s, too, but with DK held double… Depending on your actual yarn, I would used size 3 to 5 needles. This, however, will give you less stitches per inch, so you would need to have more pattern repeats and so cast on more stitches.I would wildly guess that you’ll need twice as many repeats as there are in the pattern, but it’s really hard to say without a swatch… The pattern has quite detailed instructions on how to calculate new number of stitches to cast on.

Can I use single yarn, 4 ply?
silkandwool
March 30, 2013
Of course you can – that’s the beauty of knitting, you can change things to your liking. But, as in the question by Nadja just above, you need to use appropriate needle size and increase the number of pattern repeats.
